Vermont Ice Swimming

The Palk brothers four strike again! We chopped holes in the ice, which was about a foot thick. That evening, it was below freezing and windy out. Don't try this at home, kids! :) We all four completed this stunt, but i (shane) had to turn off the camera so that i could swim.

I like the use of a safety line. It makes it much easier to recover the body. (just kidding).

I believe that I could do that swim myself, but I'm not so sure about standing around in a t-shirt and shorts for several minutes beforehand in sub freezing wind chill. The water must have actually felt warm when you went in.

the fact that they wore t-shirts made it even crazier..a soaking wet cotton t-shirt will suck the heat right out of ur body..it's actually warmer bare skinned.

what is it about ice swimming?..is it just a tradition in those parts?..like a right of passage or something?..or is it because u didn't get a good nights sleep and need a little spark? :)

wicked cool. We ice swim in South Dakota as well. But this is better. Well done.

that 2nd guy should not of tooken 1 breath and jump in under water right away he could of gotten cardic arrest or sometimes your body gasps for air when there is that fast change in temperature, so his body could of made his mouth open up to get air and he would of sucked in water and died.

Actuly when for about 1 hour as soon as they went into the water there balls retracted inside of them and they had just a bag... so they had only mental strenght as for balls thay had none for the whole period they were under the ice

Very good. I respect that. I do ice swimming two, though i've never been *under* the ice.

Why did u wear t-shirts they don't keep u any warmer?
