@borichee I'm cuban descent and it's pretty common, like you know how we eat "Harina de Maiz Con Cangrejo" or "Harina de Maiz Con Camarones" it's the same thing except with pork. Tamal en Cazuela is usually "Harina de Maiz Con Carne de Puerco". It's like Cuban polenta. Except she decided to use fresh ground corn, and make it real thickened with some cormeal still good.
I'm Cuban and never heard or seen Cuban tamels like this. We prepare them similar to Mexican tamales with the corn meal, corn husks, just without the chile sauce. We use more corn rather then corn meal. I personally like Mexican tamales but this was something very new in my opinion. Can't knock until you try it though... Enjoy!
