One city has a performing arts hall like no other -- that's Sydney and it's magnificent, modern, totally unusual opera house. Sitting on the harbor, reflecting Australia's natural beauty, the Sydney Opera House is a real wonder of the modern world. Take a look at more down under wonders on T&T's Real Travels in Sydney DVD at www.ttrealtravels.com.

  • BEFORE YOU COMMENT - PLEASE NOTE

    We acknowledge the following corrections:

    1. The architect, Jörn Utzon is Danish, not Dutch.

    2. He won the competition in 1957, not 1959.

    3. It is argued he was likely forced to resign by the government, rather than quit his post.

    4. He is said to have cut up an orange on his dessert plate, *like* a globe

Comments that repeat the above points will be removed. Thank you!

  • In the long away future my house will be like this !

  • @ateniense7 inside the building where the public can't go is just amazing, there is 3 floors under the ground of air cons, power, gen sets and plenty of more things as well.

  • Weird, i was eating lunch at the very place she was speaking just today.

  • the american accent... actually speaking highly of australia... gives me a wierd sensation feeling in my head.... hard to explain the feeling, bit wierd....

It is an expensive bridge climb... $150... yes... but suprisingly, after you do it, its not dissapointing at all, and you will find the money well spent, for the memory.. and fun... especially if you do it with friends or a good friend

  • this building is actually described as an architectural tragedy, the new architects did not use Utzon's original drawings, instead they ripped out already installed and purpose built fittings, dug up parts of the podium to create new seats some of which now cannot see the stages and renamed the major hall as the concert hall because it was now unsuitable for opera, the smaller hall became the opera hall which is too small and the orchestra pit is famous for causing hearing problems to musicians

  • this looks awesome im going here tomorrow becasue im going to austrailia tomroow

  • wow..! great work guys... i hope yous really enjoyed yourself in Sydney, and hope your experience of Sydney had no let-downs! =]

  • I have just been there last week... its a wonderful piece of architect!!!
