My 1982 Nissan Patrol fitted with a 1952 3.8 Litre Gardner 4LK turbocharged lightweight Diesel engine in 1999.
This engine is still running on its original main bearings & has covered 100,000 miles since 1999.

  • Hello there, awesome to see that engine in a car! I say because a friend has one (I think is 4LK) and the engine is massive, very big... Where can I get some info about this engine? My friends is the same but not turbocharged, and was reconditioned in 1951 by Watts of Lidney...

  • @Mcflai

Hi, if you let me have your email address I will give you any info or help regarding Gardner engines. These engines were never turbocharged, this was my modification and it was probably the most powerful 4LK on the road and was very economical to run.

  • THESE LOW REVVING DINOSOAR ENGINES ALTHOUGH BULLETPROOF ARE NO GOOD FOR THIS APPLICATION

  • @peppersdog1

Sorry peppersdog1 you are wrong, have you ever driven a properly sorted conversion such as this ?

  • @tpvalley yep, exactly! the ssangyong ones are made of a softer cast, and when they let go, they really let go, usually ends up with the timing case in a few more pieces than it should be in!

  • @pupleon

so the sprocket has the timing device not the pump?!

  • @tpvalley very!! ssangyong used the mercedes engines in their vehicles up untill 1997 then they cloned/copyied them, and the ssangyong ones where prone to the advance sprocket shattering if you stalled the engine at high rpm, ive done it! send me your email and ill send you pictures of a nasty one!

  • @pupleon

    are u sure?
