Trevithick Day in Camborne, Cornwall celebrating the Cornish engineering genius Richard Trevithick who was the first person to use a steam engine on wheels on a road.

In 1801 he drove his engine "Up Camborne Hill" celebrated in the song of the same name. Having successfully gone up the hill, at lunch time he parked his machine and went with friends into an inn. The engine caught fire and was destroyed. But Trevithick was not put off and enjoyed a hugely productive creative career.

So the song goes "Going up Camborne Hill coming down" and is celebrated in the children's dance. The girls are dressed as Bal Maidens, with caps and aprons and this is how the women were dressed who worked at the mine heads breaking up the excavated ores into manageable blocks.
