The fourth in a five part series of videos (and the first of two model railway themed videos) filmed on Saturday 15th August 2009, at the Great Garratt Gathering at the Manchester Museum of Science & Industry.
In the special exhibition hall, an 0 gauge model railway layout called Hassell Harbour Bridge was in operation. The layout, owned by the Alsager Railway Association, ran a range of trains from the pre-grouping, post-grouping and BR eras.
The piece de resistance however, was the layout's brilliantly modelled steel girder bridge, measuring 5 feet and 6 inches, and spanning the river and harbour below. Everything on the layout (including a colliery, the forementioned harbour, villages, stations etc) was scratchbuilt.
As mentioned earlier, various trains were in operation, including LMS/LNER Garratts on heavy coal trains, LNER expresses (also including the Coronation, complete with original 'beavertail observation car), goods trains and much more.
Thanks go to the Alsager Railway Association for permission to have the layout recorded.
Thanks!
