Growing Colored Super Salt Crystals - Time lapse Photography - Experiment #3 by: Slide-Lok

What do you think will happen when the salt crystals start to form. The water will evaporate and the dye is already mixed in.

We used the left over concentrated salt solution, and added food dye to it. We then filled the four compartments in petri dish with different colored dyes.



Instructions to re-create:

Items needed:

1. Kosher Salt
2. Cleaned empty plastic water bottle
3. petri dish
4. food dye w/dividers
5. Timelapse capable camera (if you wish to make a video like this)


Steps:

1. clean out your water bottle
2. fill it 3/4 full with water
3. add kosher salt to the bottle until no more can dissolve (use room temperature water for best results.)

4. fill the petri dish 1/2 full with your concentrated salt solution.

5. mix in the dye
6. Enjoy!

Experiment occurs between 12-48 hours

@lilcupcake10 DSLR Camera + remote.. the remote controls the timer on which the camera was setup to take a picture every so many seconds. Then you import the files and use Quicktime pro to assemble the time-lapse by FPS at which you can set.
