My first proper track event in my own RX-8 with the RX8OC (rx8ownersclub.co.uk), and MRC (mazdarotaryclub.com) members. This is my first session out after having some tuition laps. Unfortunately only first 4 minutes or so -- more to follow once I've solved the technical difficulties with my camera / PC :(
About time I replied to this ;-)
Other cars pass because I let them (track day etiquette, pass when invited; this is not racing!). Tyres and brakes pretty cold on first couple of laps, and yes, other drivers are far more experienced too!
No problems with reliability, plenty of people racing RX-8s, and they were used to break some endurance records for 24hr @ max throttle on a banked circuit, a few years ago!
Will give S2K, Z4 & Boxter a run for their money, but has 4 seats :-)
Not SCCA, RX8OC!

alright cool. and why do other cars pass, for example the blue rx-8?
are they tuned to produce more power, or are the being driven on better lines?
i'm thinking about getting an rx-8 in a few years, and i would like to try my hand at amateur racing. do you think that the rx-8 will still be reliable, or does the nature of the engine keep it from being the best in reliability
i am also considering (all these cars including the rx-8 would be used) s2000, z4, and porsche boxster.
is this SCCA?

P.S. You can hear more in the pt. 2 vid, which is a follow up to this.
P.P.S. This is a RENESIS Rotary engine, revving smoothing all the way to a sustainable 9,500 RPM; not yer typical 4-pot v-tec laden with heavy, clunky pistons protesting their way to 8K ;-)

Well, 'flooring it' certainly isn't the name of the game. However, I am consistently making full use of the throttle & brake, where necessary; One can quite clearly hear the beep @8,500 RPM being hit on the possible occasions, most notably the 2nd-3rd-4th changes, entering the main straight.
The car has stock induction & exhaust, which on a static noise test emits 72dBA @7000RPM, 2M from the exhaust :)
Engine, induction, exhaust noise are relatively low, but pleasant, in the cabin anyhow :-D

are you even flooring it, because the engine sounds so quiete

Sean, great video & nice editing. You're right the video I shot was taken at the same time from behind you. That M3 passing you was the one that cuts in front of me on my vid, just before he passes you.!
