Hannity: Goldberg on the Slobbering Love Affair Between the Mainstream Media and Barack Obama

Bernard Golberg appeared on Hannity to discuss his new book, "A Slobbering Love Affair: The True (and Pathetic) Story of the Torrid Romance Between Barack Obama and the Mainstream Media".

Bernie Goldberg and Sean Hannity played and discussed some recent newsclips showing how the media is covering Obama. They showed and discussed how Chris Mathews called MSNBC the network of "change" while anchoring their coverage of the inauguration. When they showed a shot of the crowd, Mathews said those are the people that watch MSNBC. They also discussed the recent Washington Post article discussing Obama's glistening pecs and his workout routine.

They also discussed some of the items in Goldberg's book, like Chris Mathews saying that if you don't cry while listening to a Barack Obama speech you are not an American. They played a clip of David Rodham Gergen of CNN gushing over Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC). They also played a clip of Keith Olbermann complaining about a question George Stephanapolous asked at a Democratic Presidential debate in April 2008.

There is no scientific evidence of a bias for one political party over the other in the media. What there is evidence of, is a steady progression of values that reflect the mainstream. Conservatives are not progressives, so of course they would feel left behind. Effectively, what the right has done is draw an imaginary line in the sand and stay that if you cross it, you are somehow "biased" in favor of the democratic party. Nonsense.

There are mountains of scientific evidence on liberal bias in the media. Look at the studies down by Pew Research, which is just one non-partisan source.

The only way one could think the mainstream media in this country doesn't have a liberal bias is if they ignored all the data or if they were so far to the left they were unable to distinguish differences on the political spectrum.

Lastly, this seems to be a wholly Western (and until recently, American) phenomena. I hear no reports in the Japanese press about supposed liberal bias. Whither the press of various African nations? Greece? Finland, Norway? Only from The United States of America, and recently the United Kingdom, those on the Far Right have sounded this alarm. Where is your evidence for this supposed bias? Can you present it?

Being successful doesn't necessarily mean you're mainstream. Fox's success comes from not being part of the mainstream media.

Fox is part of the new media - it started broadcasting in 1996. If the mainstream media was actually fair, objective and covered both sides (or many sides) of political issues equally, there would be no need for Fox News. Fox's ratings show there is a need.

Just because MSLSD is in the tank for Obama doesn't mean they have this huge sphere of influence - correlation does not prove causation. MSNBC just happened to be in the right place at the right time to ride the Obama Wave. To say that MSNBC elected him gives them WAY too much credit!!
