@BrimstoneLandscapes ahh yes, well said!

@aocidicoa I said the technical ability doesn't stick out. Never said anything about the quality of the music itself. In fact, this album is easily my favorite post 1999 death metal album. Songwriting and atmosphere will always triumph over technicality and brutality and I hear much more of the first two than the latter on GOTA.

@BrimstoneLandscapes Most (if not, all) death metal has had plenty of doom in it since the beginning. Yep, solid album and it does stick out for today's DM material being put out. We need to compare, you know. It also sticks out on the NWN! catalog, probably the label's best debut album to date.
I agree that its not ALL THAT for what it is but heck!, you have to admit these guys are taking death metal back to school in such an elegant way.

@aocidicoa For the most part all they do is standard tremelo picked death metal riffs with some doom parts thrown in. Solid as far as technical ability goes, but not something that really sticks out.

@BrimstoneLandscapes how the fuck is this not technical? maybe is not AS technical as other stuff but this is certainly technical extreme music, opinions aside. (and very brutal too)

i love the vocals
@BrimstoneLandscapes Your interpretation of these adjectives is constrained by your understanding of the genres they've been attached to. The best "old school" and "evil" bands that have most heavily influenced Dead Congregation had technical/highly skilled musicianship, coherent melodies and a "brutal" or "heavy" or whatever the fuck you want to call it timbre (see Incantation, Immolation etc.). This band is good, that's the point. Purist douche.
