"A group of attackers stormed the entrance to the presidential palace in Kabul early Tuesday -- but they were quickly repelled, Afghan police said. No one was wounded except the attackers, said Kabul police Chief Mohammad Ayoub Salangi. No other details were immediately available. The palace is located in the Shash Darak district of Kabul, near the U.S. embassy and the headquarters of the International Security Assistance Force..."

"Militants have attacked the presidential palace and government buildings in the Afghan capital, Kabul. More than half a dozen explosions were heard as they clashed with security personnel at the palace's eastern gate, the defence ministry and a CIA station. The police said all of the attackers were killed. The Taliban said they carried out the assault. The incident comes days after President Hamid Karzai raised objections about US-backed peace talks with the Taliban. He said the High Peace Council, the government body set up to lead peace efforts, would not take part unless the process was "Afghan-led"..."

"Explosions and gunfire rocked some of the most heavily guarded areas of the Afghan capital early Tuesday during a Taliban attack on the presidential palace and a Central Intelligence Agency building. The Taliban say they used suicide bombers and small arms during the assault in Kabul, which lasted about 40 minutes. Reporters were gathered at the palace awaiting a news conference with President Hamid Karzai when insurgents began their assault on the building's east gate. Plumes of smoke rose over the city after at least 15 explosions and fighting that trapped members of the media in place..."
