Premature foam discharge in JetBlue hanger at JFK-81. Two planes were in there for service. Aircraft in the middle was an E190 and was out of service. The doors and windows were left open and the foam went all the way to row six. The aircraft at the end needed both engines overhauled due to the corrosive nature of the foam

  • what is a premature foam discharge?

  • @SpecializedChild462 For some reason the fire suppression system went off.

  • @cesar333 Why you didn't closed all the control valves and shuted off the fire pumps immediatly ? If it's not for a test or a real fire, why did you let the foam botch the planes and flood the hangar ?

  • @paul9511 The alarm system is set on automatic discharge if it detects a fire. You cant really just shut it off once its starts. Now it is set to manual with a security guard on duty to turn on the alarm.

  • Ok, but are there no big pipes, which drives the foam to the sprinklers on the ceiling and some gate valves or butterfly valves on them ? If yes, what forbids you to remove the chain and the padlock (if they exists) on the valves and turn them until "closed" position ? Also what is the cause of the activation of the system ? Fire detector or pull station ?

  • @cesar333 It has to do that eventually or it will run out.

  • @iowahorseman: That ain't good. Sounds like you guys need surge protection on the system.

  • When the guys of thje plane washing department don'r come... do yourself.

  • had this happen twice at the XJ hanger in Des Moines in the past month... pull switch shorted out both times due to power surge from surrounding lightening strike, 1st time all aircraft were sealed 2nd time one aircraft had PAX door left open... UGH... 3 weeks later still sorting out the mess

  • thit is great for a test! the airplanes are damaged?
