Google, Kansas, for one month, is a city in the United States. The mayor of Topeka, Kansas called for a name change in order to try and catch Google's attention for their 1GB internet connection that'll be rolling out later this year. Unlike you I actually read the news article. The people of that town formed a group and requested the government put in an application to Google. A guy from the local TV station suggested to the mayor that they rename the town for a month, so he did it. It's not an official change, it was a publicity stunt and they got their publicity.
