The resistanc workers were incredibly brave because they could be discovered at any moment.

You're right, we didn't liberate France single-handedly, nor do I know of any senior statesmen that have said so. However, TWICE young American soldiers, most of whom had never even travelled beyond their farms in middle America, came to France and died for the honor of the French nation and her people.

As to the resistance, they couldn't stop Pétain and his puppet Vichy regime until the Normandy Invasion, in which I am sure you agree the Yankee sacrifice deserves France's undying respect.

One could be forgiven sometimes from thinking that the USA achieved the liberation of France single-handedly. On the most important day, D-Day there were equal numbers of American and British and colonial troops. The battle for Italy featured a majority of British troops but generously Churchill agreed to having an American in charge. It is disrespectful in the extreme to underplay the sacrifices of others including the French resistance such as Jean Monnet.
