Big Tubing Waves at Ma'alaea Maui August 30, 2011

A giant south swell slammed into Hawaii on August 30, 2011 and the surfers on Maui were ready to take on Ma'alaea's Freight Trains rights. These waves are big and firing down the line. The lucky and talented are able to make it out of the barreling tube rides. The unlucky get axed by the relentless lip.

It's about 4 feet out there, never much bigger. Yeah, there have been cleaner line days.

If you choose wisely, you might make about 1/3 the waves. But its Ma'alaea, Freight Trains Magic.
