1952 or 1953 should be Beethoven Vn Concerto, not Brahms, i never heard b4 too, This Brahms 1949 version, i think if that is not mono version, it will be the best Brahms Violin Concerto in the World!

As good IMO or better than any ever recorded!

@paulostroff99 I first heard this performance on the car radio ca.1958, driving out in the countryside. I never found the album, but it made such a strong and indelible impression on me that it's always in my mind whenever I hear the concerto played. It's the performance I judge all others by.
Sort of the same as the first time I heard Svetlanov's recording of the Rach Symph #2, around the same time.

@snaaptaker- And my favourite for all these years as well.

Even among all other Menuhin recordings I know, I have never listen a violin so alive like this one here being meditative, crying, murmuring... and about furtwangler... just the first bars of the orchestra alone arriving to the first climax at the beginning are enough to understand that this is something else. Does anyone know about the Nürenberg anecdote right before this concert, when Menuhing interfered for Furtwangler? there is something special all around this live concert (not a recording)

Ah!!
My all-time favorite recording of my favorite violin concerto, for more than 50 years.
Thanks much for this.
And great channel, too. I'm subscribing.

menuhin in brahms...no one better
1949?? I have one version from 1952 i think but whatever, Furtwängler is simply exceptionnal! Menuhin is very good but not the perfect violonist concerning this concerto
thx for sharing

You mean a version with Menuhin and Furtwangler from 1952? If so, I've never heard of it.
