It's 30 years since the Soviet Union began an almost decade-long war in Afghanistan. Today, war in the country still rages, but this time it's from the firepower of the U.S. and its allies. They're rapidly building up an Afghan security force, but veterans of the fight against the mujahadeen, feel their skills are being overlooked. They fear the new recruits won't be able to improve security in the country. RTs Paula Slier has this report.

  • BTW, my MIL helicopter parts, manuals etc. are serving well in Afghanistan. Watch out for my "etc." ;)

  • CFR member / Nat. Security Advisor (to President Carter), Zbinew Brzezinski ran operations in Afghanistan which precipitated the Soviet regional penetration. Afghans have been f**cked everr since.

  • Zaban Dast Safi says, "the Soviet Union did not invade Afghanistan, they did not attack us, they were invited by the President to be here as a friend of our country." What? This moron was an army officer? President Hafizullah Amin did not invite them in. Amin tried to hide from the Soviet army when they invaded under the cover of darkness but they tracked him down. They tried to have him poisoned but when that failed Spetsnaz breached the Presidential Palace and killed him 30 years ago today.
