On Saturday, October, 2, 2010, The City of Arlington held PetOberfest at the Arlington Animal Services Center, 1000 SE Green Oaks Blvd, not far from the Arlington Airport.

"We're having PetOberfest, our first annual PetOberfest," said Jay Sabatucci, Arlington Animal Services Manager. "It's a celebration of Arlington's pets. This is a fund-raiser. We are raising money for the animal shelter, but we also want to get our public involved, get our community involved in our animal shelter. It's a partnership between the citizens of Arlington and the City of Arlington to find good, permanent homes for our homeless animals."

Sheri Capehart, City Council District 2, said, "It's one of our fund raising events, the celebrity dog wash, and we have community leaders and other folks in the community that are well-known to come and volunteer 30 minutes of their time to wash dogs. Today, when we were in there, earlier, we saw former Mayor Richard Greene, and columnist OK Carter. This is all about animal awareness and how to be a responsible pet owner, and make people more aware of the programs the City of Arlington offers. We're here at our beautiful, new animal shelter. We're in our second year. It's about the place to come to get your animals vaccinated, city licensing, micro-chipping, and to get classes on everything from animal rescue, to animal safety, to bite prevention."

CMA recording artist, Sonny Burgess was invited to sing at the event by Tarrant County Constable, Clint Burgess. Sonny sang, "The more I'm around some people, the more I like my dog..."

Sheri Capehart added, "To get more information about Animal Services, or any of the information for the City go to www.ArlingtonTX.gov or phone 817-459-6143.
