A Call for Justice Prayer Vigil was held in Macon, Georgia on February 9, 2009. Police Chief Mike Burns has fired nearly a half dozen Black police officers over the past year. He also fired a White policewoman who was sexually molested by a White Sergeant, Wayne Avery, who allegedly went as far as to use a pocket knife to cut a button from the breast of her uniform shirt at the Department. Sgt. Avery was subsequently promoted to Lieutenant and placed in charge of the Internal Affairs Unit. Another White Major, Hank Ashley, reportedly says that women have no business on the Police Department. Rather, they should be cooking, cleaning and having babies. This kind of behavior and mindsets exist on Chief Burns' watch. Yet, he fired Black Officer Joseph B. Calloway for allegedly telling a White female Lieutenant, Tracie Brazee that three White male Commanders were out to get her. Isn't something wrong with these pictures?
This is truly amazing... I know some of these officers and i know that they are good policemen, however Macon Georgia will never have a police force that will treat blacks the same, i have had to deal with the police department and I was treated as if i was nothing. The police chief (Burns) simple ignored me. They all need prayer. Jehovah will be the one to take care of it all.

Thanks for your feedback. These officers are committed to bringing about changes over the long haul that will improve the living conditions and environment in Macon for everybody. Chief Thomas Michael Burns, who is wholeheartedly supported by Mayor Robert Reichert, have done things wrong for so long until they think they're right. We will make sure they realize the difference. Stay tuned. Thanks again.
