i use spinning reels and i hold them so the reels facing down but my friend uses a baitcaster and he hold so the reels facing up i think its the type or reel that you have that determines the way you hold it

Dave, my dad tells me holding the rod above reel like i saw you do when fighting a fish transfers the load on the rod and is bad for it. Is this not true?

Everyone has their own style....or way if you will - look at Hank Parker, he hods the rod like I do...I say do what feels natural I guess

Anchor is legal....Fact is, I watched ( filmed) Taco anchor in one spot on Rayburn where he worked an area with CR and trap for two hours...placed 2nd in Bassmasters on that event...we talked that morning about the spot and he told me , no trolling motor, no depth finder, super quite please when I was filming....as a big fish guide for years I knew excatly what he was talking about...
Taco's a top flight bass angler, one of the best I have ever fished with.
