In the early morning hours of October 29, 2010 the Alliance Ministry Center in Jerusalem was set on fire. The blaze was started in the basement area near the rooms of two Americans and a Danish national. Seven other Americans were sleeping in rooms on the third and fourth floors. Some time after the fire took hold, those in the basement were awakened by the sound of the fire and light fixtures crashing to the floor. All three narrowly escaped with their lives.

Five people on the fourth floor awoke simultaneously only to face the smoke-filled corridor and stairwell. Flashlights were of little use, as the heavy black cloud choked out the light. After several minutes of negotiating the stairs two victims were met by firefighters who had just broken in the front door. The other three were eventually found by firefighters confused and lost on the third floor landing.

The remaining two Americans, housed in an adjacent wing, exited the building some 20 minutes after the others.

Several days after the fire, the team returned to the room where the inferno began for a brief Communion service. Nothing short of God's mercy spared them from death.
