Christmas Greetings - Hark the Herald Angels Sing (not the one you know!)

Be ready for a surprise, perhaps even a shock. This is not your ordinary church choir, but West Gallery singing, a traditional style from rural England. Vigorous and natural rather than 'sweet,' the familiar verses of 'Hark the Herald Angels Sing' are here set to a West Gallery tune, 'Newton's.' I really enjoy hearing a cappella versions of Christmas Carols.

And it really does fit in with all of the Shape Note singing.

Hi I received your message on my email page. Thanks. I live in Worcester, MA but am actually from Atlanta, GA so I am well aquainted with "Shaped Note singing" I can remember my Grandfather sounding out t he tune in the NC Mountain church. I have been impressed to find the relationship to what I thought was Southern Revivalist music and New England traditions. Now I find West Gallery Music as well and realize the connection.
