bottem line is South Vietnam was non communist and wanted to stay that way. The US helped them and when winning was in sight, they abandond them to the communists. I think thats the only time the US has left an allie.

How was his idea of communism different than Russias or china's, where he lived, worked and learned alot? Communism is communism. Few hold power over the many and decide who needs what and so forth.

i know Ho moved to France, became part of the socialist party, lived in Russia and China, part of the Chinesse communist party and Red army at one point. He started youth movements in Nam, He actually sought out US assistance at one point too. He accepted the peace option an Genieva than renaged on the cease fire, the US ,who had promised to help, didnt do a thing. That ended the war...although I think he died before seeing it.

Ok that is the major difference between the communists of China and Russia and those of Vietnam. It is an undeniable fact that what happened in Vietnam was an Independence movement. True it was backed by China and Russia, but the Vietnamese had been oppressed for nearly the entirety of their existence as a nation.

By siding themselves with the communists they found a means to an end. You have to understand Ho Chi Minh's philosophy to understand the war.

The US financed France to help SV fight against the morth, when that failed, the US enterd. JFK sent in 16000 advisers to help train the south and when he died, Johnson sent the US in full force. The communists didnt want independance, they wanted controle.
