This is a video showing you have to play an arrangement I wrote of "Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted" on your dulcimer! You can find the free sheet music of this hymn and many other hymns at www.TheDulcimerHymnal.com. At this site you can also order a copy of the "The Dulcimer Hymnal: Volume 1", Which is filled with 50 great hymn arrangements. It's only $15 (W/ only $3 shipping)! Hope you enjoy the video and God bless.

  • what are some of the strumming pattern you use

  • With this hymn, I think I just stuck to basic one strum per melody note and added a couple eighth notes at the end of each phrase. I generally like to switch back and forth between picking and strumming. Either way, the melody notes must be more present than the other notes.

In my arrangements, I leave "picking" and "strumming" markings out, because there are so many ways of playing each hymn. I think it inspires creativity by leaving it open to interpretation.

  • Thanks...a "new" hymn for me...I love minor keyed songs. Great advice on emphasizing the melody note

  • It's very important to emphasize the melody notes; and had never brought that subject up in my past videos. No better time than the present.
