A very destructive mudslide took place on Sat, Feb 6th, just up the hill from us. The debris basin at the top of Ocean View was obstructed by huge bolders during a flash flood at 4am. The river of mud that came down into the Paradise Valley neighborhood tossed cars, smashed in garages, surrounded homes and caused severe damage. Luckily, no injuries. However, our basin, which is located straight south, was also completely filled and, unlike other storms, we now have large bolders and entire trees along with the mud. Crews went to work on Monday and, over the course of the past two days, they were able to create a pathway for new water that came in today's storm. As long as no large scale mudslide happens, this should hold us. I have heard an initial figure of about 13 million to clean the basins. Where the money is going to come from is anyone's guess. All I know is that after each rain storm, it's going to be a big mess. We have 30 basins in the Station Fire area. That's going to be a heck of an expensive program.
