As of right now Tejas is inferior to JF-17.The underbelly weight of Tejas limits its speed and ordnance carrying capacity.Small nose intakes limit its high speed manoeuvrability.JF 17 has a higher air to ground capability.Above all JF-17 is fully operational fighter where as LCA is still underdevelopment and failed in many essential tests.LCA has inducted for face saving of india but IAF has admitted that it could be a good trainer but not a good fighter one due to its v.limited capabilities.

LCA is a good aircraft & its good points are small signature visual.Can LCA beat a JF-17? That’s a million dollars question & can be answered only after their face to face competition in a dog fight.
In my opinion so far with current statistics LCA can’t beat JF17 unless it has superior roll rates allowing it to change direction quicker.
But sustaining a turn against the F-7PG,JF-17,F-16 or J-10 I think it will be a mistake specially if it use the current American Engine with very low thrust.

Although the LAC has been inducted with numbers of major defects as fighter aircraft but True Rome was not built in a day but that was rome. This rome (LCA ) the white elephant, the way its being going on for past 30 years, seems will not be get fully operational capability in next 5 years.
But IAF can use this failed experience in future & can use this LCA as advance jet trainer or may be become beauty of museum or some public square to remind their 30 years of nonstop effort.
