This is the Northeast High School (Pinellas County, FL) Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Mr. Gregory Urban. For the 2009 FBA Solo and Ensemble performance they performed Cop Drama by Jim Casella.

What is Cop Drama, you might ask?
Cop Drama is an homage to the groovy, retro sounds of classic American TV cop shows such as "S.W.A.T," "The Mod Squad," and "The Streets of San Francisco." With a large ensemble of colorful sounds and stylized interpretation, Cop Drama is an enjoyable piece for medium to advanced percussion ensembles.
A genre piece through and through, the rhythm section of guitar, keyboard, bass guitar, and drum set is the stylistic glue that keeps the mood intact. Combining the sounds of funky 70's cop rock, mysterious noir jazz, and modern themes in multiple meters. (http://www.tapspace.com/Cop-Drama-pr-61.html)

  • wow thats extremely fast, wasnt that fast on the other video lol great job once again. I really like the guy on vibe one, i have the same part but he puts me to shame!

  • BONGOS!!!!!!

  • Notice most of them dont look at the music stands. It's fairly easy to memorize this piece.

  • Not to be rude, just an insight, instead of lifting off before you play, you should start with your hands in the up position. Sounds better, helps you come in on time, and looks better. Decent performance though.

  • You're right its faster than it should be, by about 7-15 beats, not that much. The multiple octaves is the differences between marimba/xylophone probably, or Vibe1/Vibe2.

  • Sounds like your playing faster then you should be. Sounds like every now and then someone has to catch up. Also sounds like someone is playing an octave to high. Nice job though.

  • our percussion ensemble is playing that at springboro too! its an awesome piece. i play keyboard for it. we take the beginning slower tho. its helps with clarity issues.

  • wasn't exactly our best performance. lol

  • dude i love cop drama lol and northeast because their drumline is the best in the entire world ever!

  • decent performance. I would wonder how hard it was to see the music w/ sunglasses...
