Really sounds like a broken homokinetic joint. I only wonder if he still was on the throttle while already standing...I couldn't hear the engine but the rattle...there is still a chance he broke something within the gearbox, if it is an automatic he probably broke the clutch of the torque converter. It is normally engaged when in low-range. At least it is in the gearbox of the Disco2 to enhance throttle response and and engine breaking.
The problem was initially the driver who hadn't a clue how to drive a 4x4. You get it moving THEN turn the steering wheel, you don't try to drive out of mud on full lock. The horrible racket was him breaking one of the drive shaft couplings
