this is simply raw and powerful, people who know music and feel it in the soul cannot deny its beauty!!!

Absolutely heartbreaking, yet beautiful. One of my favorite Brian compositions.
To thomascrown: It is true that Brian isn't a great lyricist but he can write good lyrics when he wants to ('Till I Die.) Also, this was to be part of an album called "Adult/Child" which was to be filled with songs that had a childlike connotation to them.

Brian IS the better man

There is something so wonderful about Brian Wilson singing alone with a piano be it this recording or Surf's Up or any number of other such recordings.

Probably shouldn't compare Lennon and Wilson. They were different people, different artists, and fill different spaces of our lives with their music.

john lennon and brian wilson are two different entities, they both have their merits but in different ways,, ,, :)
this song though is very nice, with beautiful lyrics that just seems to come with such ease, so effortless, but i know that´s not the case, you just don´t put together a song like this in a hurry,

cathartic

One of the thins I like about Brian is the combination of incredible music and his awkward lyrics. That someone can communicate so perfectly with one method but finds it hard to speak the fealing with words.

i have this song here on a video tape called i wasn't made for these times. same version for sure but with some home video.

This is one of my favorite songs. "Like a dream that's somehow linked to all the stars above" - What a great line!
Just Brian and the Piano, beautiful.

@welluhmaybe In my opinion, John Lennon's got nothing on Brian Wilson. There's no way Lennon could have made something like Smile.

I sort of agree - I like the studio version, but I think I may like this version better. I think there's more potential there than either version, though, and yes - I'd love to hear Brian attempt this today with a "Midnight's Another Day" sort of arrangement.
did they do a studio version of it??

Yes, it's on the Good Vibrations boxset. There's an orchestral backing and Brian's vocals are stronger. This is has a raw curio appeal though.
