Essentially this is a character song study for Eowyn. (I cut down the song significantly, as I thought that one creepy stanza for Grima was enough to sum up his feelings for Eowyn). The female stanza's/chorus of this song really reminds me of her struggle throughout the books and films. Her validation to be independent is crippled by how she becomes trapped, caged if you will, by the men in her life. Her desperation to be rid of Wormtongue's obsession leads her into a make believe romance with Aragorn, whose heart is already taken (though, in my opinion, he does very little to make that clear until the very end). And so she finds love with Faramir finally, but is she truly free of that cage she so desperately fears?
