@Evological I think he was. He was at least influenced by guys such as Ralph Hardimon and Tom Float.

:: Morgan$&@@$ whatever the rest of your name is.. Your minuscule opinion is completely erroneous, that the last two 311 albums are boring and dull.. You ought to: A. rewire your dull senses B. get better equipment, fine tune your EQ. C. Convert to AAC format if you use iTunes.. (It does mad wonders and brings true eclectic nature off the sound. I'm telling you to do that cause Chad's continuity of his signature sound is consistent, in essence has gotten better.. either way it stands AMAZING

On the last two albums, is obvious that he changed the snare drum. He doesn't sound the same now. So sad. His new sound is boring and and disappointing.

@mycomgame007 No, technique plays the biggest role in an individualized sound. I personally play with a ping shot, which means that I play with a rim shot, but with the bead of the stick placed between the center of the head and the bearing edge, as opposed to being in the center. This means regardless of tuning, I will get a higher pitched tone than one who plays in the center without a rim shot.

@othreeeleven I totally agree with you man, deffinitly bennificial to the rising drummer, most people make the mistake of damaging their snare by cranking it too much to make that tone. deffinitly a big help.

I bet he was a marching band or drum core snare drummer.

He clearly marched in the drum corps. and that matters a lot. hes very clean and has a lot of flow.
Im glad he came out with this vid to prove to you bastards that it isnt just a 20 or 55 or a million ply snare drum that makes the sound.. its technique and he uses alot of rimshots while he's playin and incorporates thode in his rudiments

i'm a guitarist (8 years) that is finally getting into playing drums and this video makes sense because it's the same deal with guitars:
you can have joe satriani's gutiar, amp, pedals, pick, and sheet music... you will never sound like joe satriani.
technique plays a HUGE roll in tone no matter what instrument it is. equipment can only take you so far, you have to get the rest of the way on your own.
