omygod - I still remember this - I always said that if I had a mother-in-law like Vanessa, who constantly made snide remarks to me when no one was around, I'd keep a small tape recorder and tape the bitch - then play it for my husband. I always said Lorie needed to smarten up around Vanessa. - Lorie's own husband Lance didn't believe her. I'd have MADE him believe me. but that's soap operas for you. lol

Vanessa Printess was Y&R first real villian, she was the true definition of EVIL!
I recall one episode when Vanessa was plotting to push Lorie OFF the balcony! This storyline is the pure genius of the late great Bill Bell.

I so remember that in the summer of 1982.

This was a fantastic story and Lori was a fantastic character! God how I miss those early days of Y&R!

Wow!!! The writing, music and storytelling used to be so dramatic and creative!!! This was a storyline 4 years in the making. Vanessa was a possessive, over-bearing mother who envied and despised of any woman who was a part of her son Lance's life. Vanessa had this unnatural desire to be the only woman in her son Lance's life resulting from Lance taking on the role of head of household after a fire killed the father and severly disfigured Vanessa's face. Oh how I miss the heyday of soaps

That Vanessa was beyond CRAZY! I was 10 then, and I remember this very well.

I wish you could actually see this entire scene as it blew my mind when it aired in 1981. Y&R's best story period. justlikeitsounds and soapfave06 comments are spot on!

@justlikeitsounds I agree. Its so creative and fun. There was so much build-up that kept the story fun and then it exploded into all of this greatness. I miss Lorie as well. She is an original character that she definitely come back to shake things up.
I wish you would have uploaded a scene that was aired not too long after the last scene here. I missed it due to an appointment. That last scene just before the opening credits showed Lorie standing at the foot of Vanessa's grave. Not a word was spoken as the camera panned up from behind a tombstone, gradually moving toward Lorie's face while leaves were blowing around, eventually fading into the opening credits. I've always wanted to know what Lorie said to "Vanessa" in these later scenes.

@TimsDale4ever If I only had it Tim. What you see here is all I have from that time period. I don't remember the grave scene clearly, but do remember that Lorie told her that she hadn't "won" and that she would prove her innocence...in other words...bitched her out! LOL
