A Midi-keyboard and a computer, put together in a piece of wood that looks like a M400 mellotron, can make the sound from a mellotron for real at hardly no cost at all.

  • what program are you running to get the sounds?

  • I use soundfonts with mellotronsounds. Some soundfonts I've made myself some I've found at different places at internet during the last 10 years. I then use Cubase ver5 VST32 as a sequenserprogram in my laptop.

  • Rick Wakeman and his amazing onstage keyboard arrangements :)

  • Sorry, I can´t help laughing! That was fun!

    Thanks! :-)

  • You're welcome!

Any 10-year old struggling in pianolessons should go and see some prog-band videos from 70's with the armada of keyboards :)

  • I fully agree.

What I do (to get ready to play) on this video is nothing compared to switching tapes on a mellotron. You just don't do it on stage. Bring two mellotrons.

  • First of all, I love the sound from a mellotron. Nothing can compare. Secondly I cannot afford one. Thirdly, now I can make music with the sound from a mellotron. I'm happy with that.

To me my MM400 has the look, but to someone who has had the real thing, it's either a big fake or, perhaps, a cute little creature, like a baby(-tron) :-)

  • Oh okay,so it's just kinda nostalgic,A neat little conversation piece, the cabinet does look very good from what I can see,I misunderstood,I thought that this was meant to replace a real tape machine,I have had several trons and other obscure samplers from the 60's-70's,nothing really sounds like them,I use the computer as my sampler now to tho,it's much more time saving because it's somthing I don't use all the time.

  • If you mean: "Whats the point in using mellotornsounds" Some people, love the sound.

If you mean: "Whats the point in making this thing to play mellotronsounds" - A real one is expensive to buy, if you find one.

A real mellotron has only three sounds. My little package gives reliability, has several mellotronsounds and it is easy to switch between the different sounds and last but not least, it was not expensive to build.

I also like to see the little babytron in my studio. I find it neat!

  • I really don't get it,whats the point?
