Video shows a Rotary Club project in Papua New Guinea. Rotary and Northern Beaches Inner Wheel Clubs were represented by Project Leader Christine McCormack (Dee Why Warringah Rotary Club) and Rod Ingersoll (Warners Bay Rotary Club). Travel commenced on 15 November and concluded on 23 November 2009. The over all aim of the project was to provide support to help the community ultimately become independent of the gold mine and focused heavily on education and income generation opportunities. Two shipping containers of donations accompanied the project team. Staff and students helped unload the containers and unpack boxes.
Over the past several years the school has been resourced by Northern Beaches Inner Wheel, several Rotary Clubs, Barrick Gold and Rotary volunteers. Without this assistance the school would have closed and 600 students would either have to travel long distances to attend school or not attend school at all. With staff, student, community and PNG Government ongoing support the school can provide a high level of education. Resources provided by these groups are high quality and essential to effective learning. Currently the High School is one of the most resourced in the country. To ensure ongoing achievements its important to monitor the effectiveness of all donations. We greatfully acknowledge our sposnors Barrick Gold Australia Porgera and Perth Divisions.
Well Done Rotary Clubs! You guys are inspirational!
