This was a very, very personal song that Michael wrote to his wife. Like MWHDVM, it is also one of my all-time favorites because of how haunting and powerful it is. Michael only performed it for a short time, and other than this recording and a handful of other live recording bootlegs, I don't think he ever recorded it. I encouraged him at one point to add it back to his set list, but I got the impression it was something he simply felt too close to.

I think the audio starts to crackle towards the end of the tune because of the power Michael emits as the song builds! ...just my opinion though :)

Don't know what exactly it's all about - but this song is amazing. Totally gets stuck in my head and I find myself hunting through my iPod periodically to hear this very recording (about 5x in a row).

I can only guess at what it must have been like to have seen this live. I've sort of come to Michael in reverse through Andy Mckee. Type3secretion, I don't know if you're UK based, but have you heard of a guy called Foy Vance? He's an acoustic guitar player and singer, whose playing is much simpler than this, but whose voice and music live have a similar effect on me to this does here. There are few high quality recordings of him on youtube however.

I was his tour manager for 5 years. I was also a student at Oberlin at the same time you were, and was the person responsible for booking him there :)

this is deja vu - did we have this conversation before and i had forgotten it? anyway.... so, do you know what is going on with Hedges' material? any releases coming out? anything major around available i haven't posted?
