  • Hmm, I wonder what fine mansion you mean, one in Elkins, WVA? They probably still have the Augusta Heritage Arts Workshop, and you can google it. They have a festival at the end of the week. I am not sure how far you are from Elkins.

When we lived in Clarksburg, WVA, I was a child, and I went to Morgan School.

We lived at the Veterans Admin. Hospital station, because my Dad worked there.

  • @astrolog7000 The mansion was once the home of "the" Elkins of Davis and Elkins, and is is now a place to spend the night in a room much the way it was then. We stayed in the ''Nursery" room. It is right beside the collage. I believe he was later governor of WV and maybe Vice presidential candidate. I'm about 2 1/2 or 3 hours away. I'm not sure it was the same event, but it was some sort of old time picking event. I watch TV, not know of the picking next door until the next day....Too late!

  • Hi, I'm here again, listening to that fine tune again. You all play it so well! Did you ever hear of the Augusta workshop in Elkins, WVA? I used to go to that every year.

It's a music school or camp about a week long, at the Davis-Elkins College. I studied

oldtime clawhammer banjo and oldtime fiddle there with Gerry Milnes, a good teacher.

  • @astrolog7000 I actually spent a night in that mansion next door(can't remember the name) and saw everyone leaving the next day with their instruments. I walked out to ask what I had missed, they told me of the nice picking the night before. It had been the last day of that workshop, and I had missed it by the width of a parking lot..(sigh)... You were probably there...lol.. The next day we rode the train and had a great time, but still kicking myself for not knowing what was going on next door.

  • Hi MountainMonkey. Well, it's better to be in the basement than in the doghouse, the shed, or the outhouse! All that cussing and fighting--drinking and smoking, maybe a little chewing and spitting? Can't blame the missus too much, as I'm a woman too.

But I like your music alot. I'm in Bristol, VA, and I used to live in Clarksburg, WVA. So I'm not far from you. Have fun! I'm smiling now!

  • @astrolog7000 LOLOL!! You sure got me smilin'..not only for saying you like our music, but for reminding me of how much time I've spent in those other little buildings you mentioned. Me and Ol' Fido have been room mates many times over the years ..

We're about five miles north of Huntington, close to the Ohio River. We picked in the garage about five hours night, so fingers are a little sore this morning.I may post one or two soon....maybe..Thanks for dropping in..*ron

  • @astrolog7000 We're all here in West Virginia in my basement/garage. The missus won't let us in because of our cussing and fighting. ...Thanks for spending some time with us....

  • Where are you all? In what state? In someone's basement or garage? Didn't the missus let you play in the house?

  • @zideffil We're sure glad you found us and we really appreciate your very kind comment. We hope you come back often...you will always be a welcome visitor...*ron

  • I just found you all tonight and I've got to say that you have one great sound. Just the way that you play, sort-of loose and open (hard to describe, really) hits my ear just right. It smacks of damn good music. Good for you guys, keep it up.
