The "Albanian National Army" was created in 2001, joining up with underground forces in Kosovo, Albania and southern Albanian-dominated Preševo Valley.
The ANA, which aims to unify all Balkan territories inhabited by ethnic Albanians, has claimed responsibility for several attacks in Macedonia, southern Serbia and Kosovo over several years, including the bombing of a bridge used by minority Serbs in northern Kosovo.
Representatives of the Serb National Council of Northern Kosmet have stated that in the village of Kos, between Istok and Rudnik municipalities, the session of the terrorist organization ANA has been held recently, where an attack on northern Kosovska Mitrovica has been planned.
President of the Council Nebojsa Jovic has specified that the meeting of ANA was held on October 29, and that the alternative for the abovementioned plan are mass rallies of Albanians, aiming to support the proclamation of the independence of the Province. According to Jovic, the protest might turn into violence, similar to that of March 2004.
While pointing that representatives of the regional police in Kosmet have the same information, Jovic said that Serbs expect a pre-emptive action of the provincial authorities, as well as of KFOR.
Serbian Minister of Defense Dragan Sutanovac has stated that the Serbian Army will not allow for any terrorism from Kosmet and Macedonia to spill over to the south of the central Serbia. After the visit to the garrison in Novi Sad, Sutanovac said that among the members of Serbian armed forces in southern Serbia there is a high level of readiness to prevent any conflicts.
