My second video of my 5yr old's smoke detector collection. I have a few more detectors laying around but, I couldn't find them for this video. I will post them all as soon as I can find them.

  • I just read the description..

OMG, don't let your 5 year old play with the ionizing ones!! Please!

Unless you don't mind of they get leukemia or some other kind of cancer early on.. You should really learn more about the things you let your kids play with.

In closing... It's not the flame that makes it go off, its the smoke particulate getting between the Am241 (radioactive ionizing radiation source) and the detector, thus slowing the count rate, causing the alarm to sound..

  • I can almost guaranty you that if you opened all of those up, the ionizing ones would have identical circuit boards. Crazy they charge you different for the same guts..

The First Alert Photo Electric one is really nice! No radiation coming out of that one. :)

  • Do you just put 9 volt batteries in them and push the test button?
