Jillie makes a speaker with a CD case.

This was for Jillie's grade 2 science project on magnetism. During her research on magnets she discovered speakers and insisted on making one.

She did all the research herself. I (her dad) wound the first coil myself. Then we did some experiments to find something to turn into a speaker. We tried many speaker shaped things around the house. She is the one that had the CD case idea. A quick test with some tape and a couple magnets was a success.

The red coil in the video was wound by herself with a little help from me. It isn't easy to wind a coil without a proper form.

As you can see in the video she did the rest herself.

Yes she did solder the wires herself. I taught her to solder when she was 5. She needed to solder to build a robot we started together...but that's another video for another time.

The small circuit board has the music. It is from a musical toothbrush. The other circuit board is just a battery holder. We could have used any sound source but I wanted to use something that would fit inside the case. We sealed it up and she took it to school.

She is a bit congested from allergies in this video. That's why she sounds a bit funny.

  • that is awesome whoever is the parents of this kid should be extremely proud!! my daughters are 3 and 1 i can't wait for these projects and moments that make you the most proud parent in the world!! Merry Christmas!

  • @jrocallen We're very proud of both of our children. These moments keep coming everyday. Being a parent is awesome! I think they teach us more than we teach them. Merry Christmas to you too.

  • what is that thing where she put in the batterie it looks like a mp3 player

tell me please cuz i want it to do myself

    thx

  • @theSONESTARtv The music comes from the circuit board we pulled out of a toothbrush. I don't know if you can still get them anywhere. I'm sure you could use some other kind of toy or something that makes sound. An mp3 player might work also, but I'm not sure about that.

  • @HansenSong I was looking for a tutorial on how to make a speaker. I watched the KipKay's (MakeMagazine) version, and was amazed by it. But then I stumbled upon this video, and your little girl's tutorial and explanation of how everything works beats KipKay's version 10-0. She's gifted for sure!!! Keep up the great work Jillie, you are the future! And thanks for the video!!!!

  • WOW! (O.O) When the music started playing I couldn't believe it. I am no rocket-scientist but I hope someday you will be. Stick with it kid.

  • Eye protection , advanced tools & s*^t , soldering iron , this kid just pwned me.

PS: I love her safety way of working , no one does that anymore , perhaps we should take her as example
