652. Animals Rule (Original)

Since I wrote "Canine Stew", which seems to stand up for the rights of dog-eaters, some people may have thought I am not an animal lover. So I wrote this song to show how much I care about our four-footed and feathered friends.

I envisage this song as being performed in punk style, but I can't do that! (Maybe someone can cover it.)

Lyrics:

I'd rather solve quadratic equations
Than shoot little birds with my gun.
I'd rather upholster a sofa
Than slaughter a rabbit for fun.
I'd rather recycle some garbage
Than join in the hunt for a fox.
I'd rather read Milton's Paradise Lost
Than keep something caged in a box.

...Reptiles are cool,
...And I love birds of a feather.
...Respect Mother Nature
...Or everyone'll hate ya
...So never eat meat or wear leather!

I'd rather drink cold muddy water
Than cut off an animal's tail.
I'd rather jump into the harbour
Than stick a harpoon in a whale.
I'd rather spend time with my mother-in-law
Than return to the murderers we were.
I'd rather wear newspaper trousers
Than dress up in animal fur.

I'd rather have all my limbs fractured
Than cut off the fins of a shark.
I wish I could save all God's creatures
Like Noah once did with his ark.
I won't kill an elephant for ivory.
I'd rather paint frescoes on ceilings.
I'd rather get crushed by the wheels of a bus
Than hurt any animal's feelings.
