Every cell in her body must be in sync with each movement of her hand. Her mind must be completely still. Any interruption results in a flaw in the drawing. Anytime you see a still life portrait where it's obvious that it's "just a portrait" and not the "real thing" you are observing the disconnect between the artist and their model. A flaw is the result

In regards to the "hard to tell the difference between your art vs. photograph..." If that's your ultimate goal, why not just buy a good camera?
