Here's my cover of Al Petteway's "Song for John".
I've spent waaaay too much time trying to get halfway decent audio quality out of these YouTube videos - not gonna happen. YouTube totally butchers the the audio, even on the "High Quality" setting.
Between compression artifacts, distortion, and apparently random amplitude changes, these uploads make me cringe! No matter what I try, the audio always sounds like rubbish, so I'm just going to grit my teeth and leave it be. I *will* provide links to halfway decent quality mp3 files of the videos that I upload, tho - please check 'em out!
Anyways... This is a song that Al wrote for a friend of his, who passed on way too early. In Al's own words: "This melody was written for John Sifel, a wonderful man whose passing affected me deeply, almost as if he were my own father."
I recorded this on the McKnight Diamond guitar, using a pair of Peluso CEMC-6 mics hooked into a Zoom H4. Here's the original recording, prior to YouTube butchering it:

Note: I'll reupload the "Born in the Sea" video soon. That one had some definite audio issues that I should be able to fix.

I know this video is a few years old so you may have found your answer to this already, but the audio has so many artifacts because this isn't a "High Quality" (HD) video. Even if your audio is above the standard, the video needs to be a large enough size in order for Youtube to detect it as HD. That will let you watch in High Quality, which, while it isn't perfect, has significantly less horrible compression, and is in stereo. If I'm looking for good sound I only watch videos in HD!

@jessegimbel Thanks for the comment. At the time, this video was uploaded, the only two quality options available on YouTube were Low (360p) and Lower (240p). It was a near impossible task back then to get anything resembling decent audio. Now that YouTube supports higher resolutions, it's a bit easier but, as you've noted, still not perfect.

YouTube actually referred to 360p as "High Quality" back then... :D
