Hamza Yusuf's lectures, talk is always so inspirational. Even though we may know and understand - we also need to be reminded - it feels very good to have another human being to remind u - and to make ur believes and character stronger. So - thank you Shaikh Yusuf for ur work and words.

@BlweLotus ... according to the hanafi maslak, the time for dhur remains until the second mithl (i.e. 2 x shadow) However, as per some of the other a'imma it only remains until the first mithl, therefore, being a hanafi, it would be more cautious to try and pray dhur before the first mithl. Obviously, if the need arises, then one can perform in after the first mithl, but my pont is that it's awla (better) to be more cautious. I hope that I have helped shed some light on this matter. Salaam

@BlweLotus ... the stance of islam on music, I would recommend you read "Slippery stone" by Khalid Baig, ISBN:0-9755157-2-1 published by openmind press, California. It is an excellent piece written for the 'awaam (general public). One thing you should keep in mind is that although there are differences of opinion regarding the niceties, the most cautious path is to abstain from it. That way you will remain safe in any case. Just like for example, according to the hanafi maslak one can...

@BlweLotus Wasalaam, I am uncertain of your source for claiming that the "jamhoorul ulamaa" or as you put it "most" of the ulamaa are of the opinion you mentioned. However, I would like to inform you that it is clear cut in the ahaadeeth that music is forbidden, as in, indulging in it will result in major sin. The only instrument that has been allowed in shari'a is the "duff". Judging by your comment, I will presume that you are not an aalim, therefore, to get a better understanding of the...

@soulja4lyf87 Salaam. Actually, there has been dispute about thing among scholars because most of them say that music in itself isn't haraam, it's what you use it for. Being: "singing" the national anthem could be considered because it is still considered to be music but we don't think of that as haraam. However, if you're listening to music that contains haraam things (sex, drugs, drinking, etc), THAT music in specific is haraam. So each piece of "music" has to be evaluated by itself.

@qulhaqan yes we should serve Allah to be happy but how do you serve Allah? thats what he is talking about.
happiness, is not n servng people, but it is in serving Allah.
If you earn Allah's pleasure, everything else does not matter. The Dua of the Prophet after visiting banu taif, suffuices as proof. He earned the displeasure of the people, but the pleasue of Allah.

The essences of the talk are:
a)True happiness is being pleased with what Allah has decreed.
b)The pursuit of happiness in Islam is a pursuit of a moral and virtuous life.
c) Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:" God will never forsake you, you feed the hunger, you take care of the orphan..." (Isn't that a proof that serving others will result in the pleasure of others and ultimately Allah's pleasure which will bring about happiness.)
I end with Allah knows best..
