Assembly Democrats Dismayed By Proposition 8 Ruling

(Sacramento) In this Democratic weekly address Assemblymember John Pérez, Chair of Assembly Democratic Caucus, expresses his disappointment with this weeks announcement from the California Supreme Court that it has upheld Proposition 8, the ban on same sex marriage. In the address Assemblymember Pérez says, Sadly, a court that was with us a year ago was unable to be with us on Tuesday. I am heartened by Justice Morenos dissenting opinion and his eloquent words that even a narrow, limited exception to the promise of full equality strikes at the core ofthe guarantee of equal treatment.
