  • how big is the enclosure

  • @MrBlubyu12 i think it is 2m by 1m at the moment because they are only little but in a couple of years I intend to exten it out another 1.5 m and add a bigger watering bowl and mini green house :)

  • i have a 1 month old desert tortoise but i have a problem. this started happening about a week ago but ive been seeing a lot of nats or fleas, in my tortoise cage. im not sure if its because its moist, if its the bedding, the fact the cage doesnt have a top on it, or even if theyre coming from inside the tank. all i know is its annoying seeing those bastards flying around everywhere. i need your help, any advice on getting rid of them?

  • @dontshootmydik If you can't change from a tank just yet make sure that the bedding isn't damp as this is a breeding ground for bacteria, moss ad bugs :( You could also try changing everything and washing all bits and pieces in the cage. Stuff like water bowl and change all bedding and soil even give your tortoises a bath :) A bath will clean them but is also good for them :) I'm really sorry if you don't have a tank for your tortoise but you should still try cleaning everything :O

  • are they in that all year round?

  • @mareptilesrock Only in later spring, summer and if really lucky with weather then autumn but any other time they are either hibernating or in their inside house :)

  • @SPOTSandSRIPES thanks because i have an eastern box turtle im trying to make plans to build him a outdoor enclosure

  • @SPOTSandSRIPES oh well i have a tank for him. i gave him a bath and stuff but i think i got rid of them. and yesterday was his first bath :) thank you though

  • @dontshootmydik You've mentioned a tank, so is this your inside tortoise house? Either way a tank regardless if it has top or not, is not a good environment for a tortoise as it can lead to the tortoise walking into the glass thinking they can escape and causing head problems but also lots of respiratory problems from lack of air flow and the humidity being to high. So if it is a tank I suggest you get rid of it, not only will it help your tortoise but also might help the fly problem :)

  • it seems cold where you are, is it like that all year round?

  • I love this. I can't wait to build my tortoise one for next spring. You are a brill keeper. I am trying to design something William can climb over but won't fall off and land on his back. He's an idiot so it might just have to be a few mounds of sand in the end LOL!
