This is a video of the Goddard Rd. crossing malfunction in Wyandotte, MI. The lights and bells kept ringing on one side of the crossing. It was first thought to be the contact that controls this, but it wasn't. Found out it was the gate light wire. One of the wires was out of the nut, and hanging. It is somehow tied into the voltage to keep the relay up. Weird.

  • How come the piickup truck on the tracks didn't trigger the gates, but the other trucks did?

  • The first truck that came through didn't shunt (connect the rails together), so that's why it didn't activate for that one. The bigger, second truck does shunt the rails, causing the system to activate.

  • Why aren't they all going on that side? It looks like only every other one is going on both sets of signals.

  • The Hi-rail truck was on the 3rd track from where I was standing. Only that track will activate, since the truck was on that track. The rear lights on the gated signal in front of me, and the rear lights on the gated signal on the other side won't come on either...unless a train is on the track the signals protect.

  • If you look closely enough from 3:16 to 3:28 the gate on the other side gose down late.

  • It would be even more amuzing if they had cops at moth ends pulling people over for going around downed gates.

  • Why don'they insulate those trucks?

They should have a guy directing traffic through the crossing or had the signals turned off. But not needed if trucks INSULATED.

    Why gates not down?

    I'm totally confused.

    Thanks for your video.

  • there is nothing wrong here, the full circumstance is not being revealed here

  • Thats very very weird!

  • @mjet401bnsf From what Owensri2 has said about this crossing, the track that the hirail truck is on is not owned by the same company that the malfunctioning signal relay is on, so the best he/she would be able to do is contact the company that owns the other 2 tracks and notify them of it.

  • that hirail truc didnt want to fix it

  • Now This one would confuse me as a HAZMAT driver...it's malfunctioning as far as lights and bells, but the gates remain up...I still think we are required to sit and wait for Law Enforcement or FRA official for clearace tho. I'm going to have to double check that one. I've never seen a malfunction like this regardless, then again, these types of crossings were set in place after I moved out of the Detroit area and the railroads where I'm at now are basically dead trackage. :(

  • man not again...

  • gates went up and lights and bell stayed on.
