This Saw Whet Owl pair nested in a box I installed in my backyard in 2007. I mounted a small infrared camera inside the box to record the action. The female acted quite tame around us though we rarely went near the box. She was very curious of us,and would watch our activity while sitting in the opening of her nestbox. My two sons had asked me about installing the Owl boxes to attract them to our yard but we didn't expect that we would host Northern Saw Whet Owls. We reported our findings to the Audubon Society and found out there had not been any evidence of a breeding pair in our area in 50yrs! The pair stayed for two weeks, and the female laid three eggs, but then abandoned the nest. We never got to see the eggs hatch but what an experience it was to watch these little Owls!
