No, the sole purpose wasn't to humiliate this woman but the sole purpose of this woman's humiliation was to entertain the listeners. I agree. I don't think the DJ came up with the idea like that but someone at the radio station came to the conclusion that a female listener would allow herself to be publicly humiliated and degraded to win the tickets.

It was done for entertainment and ratings. Radio stations always have contests where they have listeners humiliate and degrade themselves for a chance to win a prize. The DJ's didn't even know the correct name of the charity. Even though they hacked up her hair, the amount they cut off wasn't a significant amount for a single donation. Besides, the woman didn't go there because she wanted to donate some of her hair to Locks of Love. She agreed to do it so she could win Kanye West tickets.
