I've talked for hours on this subject, thought about it for days/weeks if you add it up. A few things happen, and you realise you're not the same as you were. Well, you are inside. A part of me will always be 19. My mum says her 'age of consciousness' is 16. Internally we are ageless, but comprehensively we are not. In our bodies, and in other peoples perception of us, and of course in our life circumstances we do not stay the same.
Is that all bad?
I look forward to all that middle age brings me. Sure I mourn the youth I might not have used to the best effect, but we can't go back right? If I knew what I knew now and was at the stage in my development I am now I probably would have made different choices, but then I wouldn't have been thinking with my 'young' mind.
Every stage is an adventure. I look forward to them all. And maybe one day I might stop being afraid of death. Maybe not!
I wouldn't be the woman I am today, if I had not been the girl I was yesterday. But, there IS a difference, and therefore I am in a new stage of life. So I call it middle age. Screw society if they want to use that term negatively! :P

  • A good thing about hitting middle-age is that your car insurance is so much more affordable than when you're 17 which is nice !

  • Indeed! And if you've played your cards right you're more likely to be able to afford your dream car to go with the insurance! :D

  • yes - i didnt get the sportscar, i got vanity license plates.. this counts right? i gave up makeup on most days, and yes the bra, just doestn seem as supportive. Luckily i have good skin and i feel childlike inside! haha

  • I've never managed to keep up daily make-up. WAY too much hassle!

I say embrace whatever stage we're in and keep having fun. Age doesn't define how we are at all. In fact the older the get the more confident we should feel to do what we truly want to do rather than give in to outside pressures. Life's too short to pander to other peoples perceptions of who we are and what we should be like!

  • Very good vlog! I agree with you. It's not always nice to be classified as middle aged, but... lol It has its good points. I just turned 28 last week and was called "Ma'am" the other day for the first time. I almost died. lol I'll go for Mrs. or even lady, but ma'am just sounds soooo old to me!

  • It's those little things that jar our self-perception isn't it! As far as I'm concerned I think I'll always feel like I'm 19 inside, and being treated as older always makes me feel a little strange!

  • ANNOYING

  • I'm about to turn 28, and I don't feel anywhere close to middle age, probably because I still get acne.

Well, if all middle age women look like you, middle age won't be so bad anyway.

  • 40 is the new 30 and 50 is the new 40 and lets face it ,100 years ago people would be old and dying at 40 ,I travelled the world as a Professional DJ in the 80s and funilly enough at 50 often DJing for an over 40s age group Hard to believe that the average pensioner comes out of the 60s flowepower sex drugs n rock n roll woodstock era, which so many young people wish they had. your as old or as middle aged as you feel.

  • I think people only have a 'mid-life crisis' if they are trying to cling to an age they are not. There's nothing wrong with growing older and enjoying whatever you enjoy-it's that desperate grasp at clinging to a youth you'll never return too that looks so pathetic. I don't see you doing that, you seem pretty comfortable with who you are, where you are, and with your age.

  • Good for you :D Some mature quicker than others. It's all about knowing what you want, not wasting time on the things you can't change, and enjoying the simple pleasures I think!

  • Same here! I'm enjoying the journey!

And I realised I was growing up and becoming more mature when I noticed that the more I seem to learn, the more I realise how little I know. I think full maturity will be blissful in my self-acknowledged ignorance!
