This game occured at a tough time for most of us in America. The weeks after 9/11 were almost surreal. College football gave many of us a sense of solace - a retreat to old traditions and the joy it brings to fans. Pete Carroll had SC well on its way back (though they lost 6 games that year, all were close and it was clear SC was improving fast). This was the worst UCLA loss to SC since '79, and 3rd in a streak of 7 (many blowouts) losses to SC after an 8-year win streak of their own.
